Jackson Middle School Hosts National AVID Showcase, Inspires Visiting Districts

Over fifty educators from nine school districts*, some traveling 250 miles and driving over four hours to visit Jackson Middle School, gained insight and left inspired by the school’s commitment and success as a National AVID Demonstration school.

Principal Anderson welcomed the guests, offering an overview of the school’s demographics and AVID model. With a dedicated 22-member AVID site team, Jackson continuously refines its approach through ongoing professional development and data-driven decision-making to ensure the best support for students.

The school’s AVID implementation follows a structured cycle:

  • Data-informed visioning to develop goals
  • Piloting and reflection, leading to schoolwide implementation and accountability
  • Continuous refinement through regular analysis of student progress

Student-led classroom tours allowed visitors to witness a variety of AVID strategies in action and a culture of student ownership of learning. The approach has led to notable growth in student confidence, collaboration, and engagement, with particularly strong progress among English learners.

Educators left Jackson Middle School with a shared vision and valuable insights to bring back to their own districts, inspired by the school’s commitment to student success.
